Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma is a Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi. He completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur in 1997, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, graduating in 2001. His doctoral research focused on distributed algorithms for fault-tolerant systems.
Over a career spanning more than two decades, Dr. Sharma has built a research programme spanning Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Distributed Systems and IoT Security, securing funding from the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and multiple industry partners. He has supervised 18 scholars to successful PhD completion and currently guides 5 active doctoral candidates.
In addition to his research output of 92+ peer-reviewed papers, Dr. Sharma has authored 6 textbooks used across Indian universities, contributed 9 book chapters to internationally published volumes, and holds 4 patents. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and has been featured in leading media outlets discussing the future of AI in India.
